"And I believe that one of our greatest future directions is to provide as much choice and control as possible for people with intellectual disabilities. And when those people, similar to Jay, need support in making that happen, then they are surrounded by family and friends who can enable them to have the life that all of us want for ourselves, an opportunity to control our front door and opportunity to have a job where we can contribute and to have valued friends."

"Special Olympics athletes are spokespersons for freedom itself - they ask for the freedom to live, the freedom to belong, the freedom to contribute, the freedom to have a chance. And, of all the values that unite and inspire us to seek a better world, no value holds a higher place than the value of freedom."

Amber,
ReplyDeleteI'm so truly excited to hear your great news. What a blessing you have been given. I can still remember how it felt the first time I got pregnant and realized we were bringing a new life into this world. It felt the same with each one after getting over the initial shock at times. I will be praying for you and your family and for the health and happiness of your baby.
Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you both! We are very excited and happy!! Although, I have been a bit emotional lately but I hear that is normal. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteI really like your quote about special olympics. I coached basketball for special olympics for several years and it was such a joy to see the excitment on their faces. It brought tears to my eyes many times including after the first game we won :)
